Nestled between the Ligurian Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient city of Genoa is particularly vulnerable to extreme rainfall, resulting in flash floods that threaten lives and infrastructure. Climate change, with its rising temperatures and increased humidity, amplifies the challenge of predicting sudden weather changes.

In response to these pressing challenges, the I-CHANGE Project is fostering a groundbreaking collaboration between scientists and citizens. By collecting data from areas often beyond the reach of traditional research, and raising awareness of climate change at the local level, the project is paving the way for innovative solutions to a global problem.

The short documentary, “Genoa Living Lab: Predicting Extreme Weather with Citizen Data, showcases the transformative power of this partnership between scientists and citizens. It captures the inspiring stories of mountain bikers gathering critical data in Genoa’s rugged mountain terrain, a coastal boat club monitoring the Mediterranean, and creative educational efforts bringing climate science to life for schoolchildren.
