spotFIRE
from 18/08/2023
The spotFIRE App is a Citizen Science project initiated by BOKU University (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna), focusing on forest fire risk management and fuel management. The App aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using Citizen Science approaches to measure forest fuel data and collect information on forest fire events, specifically in mountainous regions.
Using the spotFIRE App, developed by the SPOTTERON Citizen Science Platform, Citizen Scientists can collect data on vegetation cover, providing essential insights into fuel load and the potential intensity of forest fires. Users can also report forest fire events, documenting the environmental impact and assessing damage caused by the fires. This data helps build a comprehensive understanding of forest fire risks and their consequences. By involving the public in these efforts, the App encourages active participation in fire prevention and risk management strategies.
Aim
The aim of spotFIRE is to improve forest fire management by collecting data that supports better risk assessments and fire prevention efforts. Through this Citizen Science project, researchers hope to raise awareness among the general public, encouraging greater involvement in fire prevention and helping to shape more effective fire management strategies.
