The SpiderSpotter App is a Citizen Science project designed to help researchers study spiders and their webs to understand how they are adapting to changing environmental conditions, particularly in urban areas. Created in cooperation with the Unviersity of Ghent, the App allows spider enthusiasts and arachnologists to share their observations and contribute to ongoing biodiversity monitoring. The App features a variety of spider species and fosters an active community of users passionate about spiders.

Using the SpiderSpotter App, developed by the SPOTTERON Citizen Science Platform, Citizen Scientists can photograph spiders, document their observations, and enter key details such as the spider's color, size, and the characteristics of their webs. The App also includes an interactive map where users can share their findings, making it easy to contribute data and explore the distribution of different spider species. The App encourages active participation, allowing users to help scientists track changes in spider populations and behaviors in response to urban heat and other environmental factors.

Aim

The aim of the SpiderSpotter App is to support the SPIN-CITY project by collecting valuable data on how spiders are adapting to the increasingly hot summers in cities. By studying spider color changes and web structures, researchers can gain insights into how climate change is affecting urban wildlife and how quickly these changes are occurring. Ultimately, the App contributes to understanding biodiversity in cities and may even offer solutions for better urban cooling strategies in the future.
