StreetMind
from 30/08/2022
StreetMind contributes to a better understanding of how environmental factors like urbanicity or climate change influence how individuals across Europe and the world feel, act, and behave. Participants make up their minds with fellow citizens and scientists and share their daily experiences of their surroundings and the environment where they live, work, and interact.
How do people feel in certain places? Is it safe? Is it crowded? Does a particular area influence the sense of well-being? Interacting with other people in the StreetMind Citizen Science App - inspired by a community of fellow citizens - helps to make people aware of and identify things that can reduce the negative impact of significant environmental challenges. Each experience becomes part of a larger experience network across the globe.
Aim
The aim is to learn more about how different environments are affecting people’s ways of life, including short and long-term well-being. This includes some of the greatest global environmental challenges like climate change, pollution, noise emission, and the COVID-19 pandemic, up to the individual world of citizens in their specific and meaningful contexts. Identifying interactions between the individual and their environment can help develop strategies and tools to better manage mental health and well-being.
Through the StreetMind App, developed by the SPOTTERON Citizen Science App Platform, users are encouraged to share their daily life experiences in the streets of their environment, their knowledge, feelings about, and behaviors in their surrounding places and areas. They can do so via Live Route Recording to capture their observations and impressions along their path. They are also invited to e.g. engage in physical activities at certain locations, which are set up and published via the Project Activity feature.
The goal is to distribute this knowledge across Europe to identify the most suitable streets enjoying daily life. This may not only be of interest to scientists but also to other people in the community, people who are both new to and familiar with the described areas.
