Since there are several English words that regularly enter the Italian dictionary, we felt that "citizen science", so internationally and widely used, could be one of those words. Given that none of the possible Italian terms totally describe the CS concept and that the development of activities in our country is mostly derived from international examples, we concluded that was not the case to reinvent a term that would potentially lead to confusion.

When I wrote "we" I'm speaking about a group of people that is currently part of an informal community, called Citizen Science Italia. We are networking through a Basecamp (https://3.basecamp.com/3225130/projects/407562) that can be joined by anyone speaking Italian language that is somehow interested in Citizen Science in our country. The above webpage is also a temporary repository of the Italian citizen science projects. Far to be complete, is just a starting point for a future CS portal in Italy.

Poiché ci sono diverse parole inglesi che entrano regolarmente nel dizionario italiano, abbiamo ritenuto che "citizen science", così ampiamente utilizzata a livello internazionale, potesse essere una di queste. Considerando che nessuno dei possibili termini italiani descrive appieno il concetto di CS e che lo sviluppo delle attività nel nostro paese deriva per lo più da esempi internazionali, abbiamo ritenuto che non fosse il caso di reinventare un termine, che avrebbe potuto creare confusione.

Con "noi" intendo un gruppo di persone che fa parte di una comunità informale, denominata Citizen Science Italia. Stiamo facendo rete attraverso un Basecamp (https://3.basecamp.com/3225130/projects/407562) a cui può partecipare chiunque parli italiano e in qualche modo sia interessato alla Citizen Science nel nostro paese.
