U_CAN
from 23/05/2024 until 30/05/2028
U_CAN facilitates a practical bottom-up approach with Ukrainian cities towards climate neutrality. Following the European standards and the European Green Deal (EGD), the project starts with a core group of 8 Ukrainian cities, Dresden as a Mission City, NGOs and research institutions. In line with EU Open Science Policy, the project seeks to contribute to greater knowledge generation.
Aim
The project encompasses five key objectives:
1) to support Ukrainian cities that are willing to transition to climate neutrality in developing context specific climate strategies;
2) to identify key sectors in Ukraine for climate transitioning. This includes identifying critical sectors that require transitioning including industrial decarbonisation, energy transition, nature-based solutions, etc;
3) to facilitate CNSC twinning activities, fostering the exchange of best practices in climate action. This facilitation includes connecting CNSC Mission cities as pioneering examples and mentors for Ukrainian cities in achieving climate neutrality;
4) to facilitate local Pilot initiatives as indication of on-ground efforts demonstrating feasibility and benefits of climate-neutral measures. This will also propagate tangible efforts in terms of replication and knowledge exchange between Ukrainian partner cities and other cities in Ukraine;
5) to facilitate awareness building among a wider group of Ukrainian cities. This will ensure the dissemination and exploitation of project results for long-term impacts on Ukraine’s alignment with the EGD.
