In the Wake of the Cairo Geniza is a citizen science project in history that is a partnership between schools and the researchers at the Eliyahu Lab (Digital Humanities Lab at the University of Haifa). In this project, students take an active part in trying to understand the lives of the Jews of the Mediterranean over hundreds of years through ancient sources found in the Cairo Geniza, ask research questions, and carry out independent research in cooperation between teachers, students, and historians.

Aim

To give students an opportunity to experience the work of historians by active participation in the work of transcribing and analyzing primary historical texts as they correct automatic AI transcriptions in Hebrew/Arabic texts. Historians then, can collaborate and work with students to enrich the scholarly historical work together.

Needed equipment
