Finding information about ancestors that lived in the former Dutch colonies of the Western Atlantic is a difficult task because sources are not available online. The Historical Database Suriname Curacao (HDSC) will make genealogical research much easier by providing information about people who lived in Suriname or Curaçao during the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. The database will also facilitate further historical research into the lives of inhabitants of Caribbean societies that endured slavery and contract labour.

Aim

Aim of the citizen science project is to transcribe civil records from Suriname: birth, marriage and death certificates in an online form. The transcriptions will be publised as open data and can be queried at the websites of the National Archives.
