Fenice Verde APS

Fenice Verde is a non-governmental organisation established in 2023 with the mission of empowering local communities and public institutions in Sicily to prevent and recover from wildfires. Our work is rooted in evidence-based practices, driven by scientific knowledge, and aimed at fostering ecological restoration, sustainable land use, and community engagement.

Our main asset is human capital. We have been bringing together a mix of profiles with 15+ years of professional experience: strong expertise in GIS (Geographic Information system), experience in international organisations managing large scale projects, and scientific background in ecology, botanic, zoology, and geology. We are also stakeholders of LiFi, Living with Wildfires project.

Our main project is Osservatorio Incendi, The Wildfire Citizen Observatory is a Citizen Science project with a dual purpose. On one hand, it provides citizens with a tool to report wildfires and potential ignition sources, promoting their swift removal and encouraging a collective preventive effort. On the other hand, it offers concrete support to municipalities by providing them with an intuitive platform that accelerates and simplifies the complex process of preparing the Wildfire Cadastre. This approach aims to overcome current bureaucratic hurdles and the lack of updated data, a particularly pressing issue in many Sicilian municipalities that struggle to meet deadlines. The project also aspires to build a collaborative network among various local associations, acting as a central hub for data sharing and best practices, with the ultimate goal of extending the cadastre's effectiveness from pilot communities to all of Sicily. This will ensure greater transparency and participation in the process of protecting and restricting burned areas.

In conclusion, our mission is to protect Sicilian natural capital, to pass it to the next generation. We focus on biodiversity conservation and  Institutional advocacy through bottom-up initiatives to achieve long-term sustainable improvements.
