School Beyond the Horizon

School Beyond the Horizon is a group of individuals in Thailand who believe in the power of science and active learning. Since 2020, we have traveled across the country to promote ecological awareness through citizen science activities, working mainly with rural primary and secondary schools.

In addition to our educational outreach, we collaborate with Thailand’s Community Health Impact Assessment (CHIA) platform to develop citizen science-based health monitoring initiatives. Our work focuses on two key areas:

  • Nan Province, Thailand’s northernmost province, where communities face potential health impacts from a coal power plant located across the border in Laos (Lao People's Democratic Republic).

  • Three provinces in north-central Thailand, Pichit, Pitsanulok, and Petchabun, where gold mining activities may have led to water contamination and related health risks.

School Beyond the Horizon also produces a bi-weekly streaming program under the same name, dedicated to promoting citizen science, fostering natural history awareness, and encouraging interest in birding.
