Information Systems Laboratory

The University of the Aegean (UoA) is an international research-oriented university. UoA is an inspiring, innovative, socially committed institution, embodying the concept of a ‘university- network’ operating in Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros, Lemnos and Athens.  The Information Systems Laboratory (ISL) of the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering of UoA is a multi-disciplinary research unit conducting technology policy, research and prototyping, evaluation and life-cycle management over a wide range of application areas within the public and private sectors, at an international scale.  The Information Systems Laboratory pursues a strong and lasting collaboration with academic and research institutions, public sector organizations and innovation-oriented enterprises from Greece, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Members of the laboratory are actively participating in ICT policy, research and standardisation in European Union and internationally (EU/EC, FP6/FP7, CIP/PSP, CEN-ISSS, SEMIC.EU, W3C, IFIP, AIS). Acquired knowhow is channelled in the creation of vocational and academic training material, and the implementation of high quality academic work in the domain of information systems.

ISL is staffed by members of the UoA faculty, post-doc and postgraduate researchers, including associates from a wide spectrum of international caliber experts and researchers.  The areas of expertise of ISL span within the life-cycle of information systems and services for administrations, enterprises and citizens, covering:

  • Information systems investments planning and  impact assessment
  • Government transformation and ICT-enabled, collaborative governance
  • Simulation and visualisation of systems, data and argumentation
  • Ontologies for supporting the collaboration among public organizations
  • Web-based service modelling, engineering, marketing and support
  • Web 2.0 methods and tools for societal collaboration
  • Information systems and services evaluation, verification and validation
