Citizen science in industries

Empower Your Innovation Journey

Join our pilots to solve innovation challenges through citizen science and the co-design of new business models

To strengthen collaboration between SMEs, industries, and citizen science initiatives, the European Citizen Science project is launching an open call for partnerships between citizen science projects and businesses. This call invites participants to take part in three pilot cases, where we will co-design new models for integrating citizen science into business practices.

Through these pilots, we aim to tackle innovation challenges and drive meaningful social and environmental impact in three key areas:

  • Restoring our oceans and waters
  • Climate-neutral and smart cities
  • Health.

Process and timeline

Open call will be open from April 1st - April 15th. Build up your partnerships between citizen science projects and industries/SMEs and apply together.

Pilot development will take place from May - June 2025. Three online sessions to explore citizen science practices in industries and SMEs and co-create 3 business/sustainability plans.

  • Sessions: 3 co-creation workshops
  • When: 1.5 months between April to June 2025
  • Outcome: a co-created business model to solve the SME/Industry innovation challenges.

Why participate?

I'm a SME or an industry: Generate new value for your business — data insights, brand visibility, community engagement and funding opportunities.

I'm a citizen science project: Amplify impact of your project — transfer knowledge, drive innovation and funding opportunities.

About the ECS project

ECS aims to create a globally connected, inclusive and strong citizen science community for societal change in Europe. It has the overall objective to widen and strengthen the citizen science community in Europe through capacity building and awareness raising activities, such as the creation of a European citizen science Academy and the establishment of a network of 28 citizen science ambassadors.

Note: While this initiative offers valuable opportunities for collaboration and innovation, please be aware that there will not be funding provided for the pilot projects. Instead, the focus will be on leveraging expertise, resources, and collective insights to achieve impactful outcomes.
