On 14-15 October, the Museum für Naturkunde, the EU-Citizen.Science coordinator hosted an international event dedicated to the link between Citizen Science and the Sustainable Development Goals. Called “Knowledge for Change: A decade of Citizen Science (2020-2030) in support of the SDGs”, the conference gathered 530 active participants from 61 countries.

EU-Citizen.Science was very proud to contribute to such an event by sponsoring the session “Citizen Science platforms as a way to impact the SDGs”. During this workshop chaired by Colombe Warin, our project officer from the European Commission, four different citizen science projects and organisations presented their version of a collaborative platform.

·        Bürger schaffen Wissen is the national platform for citizen science in Germany

·        MICS project developed an integrated platform of metrics and instruments to measure the impact of citizen science

·        The implication of citizen science in tracking progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals is explored by the Crowd4SDG project

·        CS Track is building a central database of citizen science projects in Europe

All these initiatives highlighted the importance of building a strong collaboration among citizen science practitioners. This can be achieved through the establishment of common spaces such as digital platforms, a useful tool for sharing knowledge and joining forces to move towards a greater implication of citizen science in the SDGs.
