Science in the city

Description

Science in the City was a project carried out in 2014 with residents in the Barbican and Mansell Street, in the City of London. Residents used low-tech tools to measure Nitrogen Dioxide and particulates in the air. Commissioned by the City of London, we provided support and training to enable communities to measure and map air quality. We also supported with the data analysis and visualisation.

By collecting this data locally, communities were able to raise awareness and developed strategies and solutions for mediating the negative impact of air pollution.

Community groups made the decision to digitise the data on our Community Maps platform. You can see the findings here, as well as new air quality data gathered by other groups.

You can watch a short documentary from Mapping for Change and Clockpunk Films about the project here and read the final report.
