The 'Financial Aspect' Characteristic

From a recent talk that I gave about the work on the ECSA Characteristics of Citizen Science, there was a lot of interest in the findings around the role of compensation or payments in CS initiatives - and some of the attendees have gotten back to me about whether I know of anything on this in the literature.

.....and I don't!

I'm aware of GeoWiki and QuestaGame as tangible examples of micropyaments. What other examples are out there?

Is anybody aware of any papers on this topic, or referencing this topic?
