Next week, the NEWSERA project is launching the first of its #CitSciComm Labs (Citizen Science Communication Labs), co-creation workshops that study the communication practices of citizen science projects and how to improve them. The Labs include open sessions available to representatives of any citizen science project based in Europe and United Kingdom, but also to experts in citizen science or communication.
This first workshop focuses on how to reach and communicate better to one specific stakeholder: Citizens and society at large. Practitioners from a small group of citizen science projects (selected through the NEWSERA survey) will join representatives of civil society, communication experts and the NEWSERA team to reflect together on the communication strategies that are currently used; the experiences of all participants will be crucial to find ways to improve them.
Each workshop is conducted online within three groups, one for each country of the project consortium (Spain, Portugal and Italy).
On Friday 18th, during the open session, the groups will meet together to share their findings and experiences with each other and with registered participants.
If you wish to participate and learn more about how you can improve the communication strategies of your citizen science project, sign up for the meeting by filling the form here (registration is open until Thursday 17th). You will receive an email with instructions on how to attend the online meeting.
More about the NEWSERA #CitSciComm Labs
The NEWSERA #CitSciComm Labs are co-creation workshops that aim to create innovative communication strategies for citizen science projects, in order to reach specific audiences better. Each Lab focuses on one stakeholder (citizens and society at large, academic scientists, industries and SMEs, policy makers, and journalists) and is composed of a series of three co-creation workshops.
The first round of workshops will be carried out in the upcoming months, while the second and third are scheduled for late 2021 and 2022.
The Labs are the core of the NEWSERA project: the results of the participants' efforts will be the basis to create a series of Communication Blueprints, that any citizen science project will be able to use to improve their communication strategies addressed to different targets.
